The Charlotte Adelman and Bernard L. Schwartz Nature Preserve occupies one square mile of land adjacent to the Raven\u2019s Nest Nature Preserve in Bent County Colorado.<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

It is named after a conservation-conscious husband and wife from Wilmette, Illinois, who provided substantial monetary gifts to purchase the land it occupies. The donors were particularly interested in the land as home to two interconnected colonies of black- tailed prairie dogs, and they wanted to stress and support the importance of prairie dogs as a keystone species and integral part of the prairie ecosystem.<\/p>

The Southern Plains Land Trust thanks Charlotte Adelman and Bernard L. Schwartz for facilitating acquisition of the Preserve and encouraging others to similarly support our efforts.<\/p>

Charlotte Adelman and Bernard L. Schwartz are impressive examples of how anyone, whether near or far away, can help the Southern Plains Land Trust achieve our critical land and species conservation goals.<\/p>

By profession, Charlotte Adelman and Bernard L. Schwartz are and were retired attorneys. By personal conviction, they are and were ardent advocates for and supporters of the American prairie. Beneficiaries of their generosity include the National Audubon Society, the Kettle Moraine Land Trust, and of course the Southern Plains Land Trust. They published many books on midwestern and prairie shrubs, trees, and other native plants.<\/p>

Bernard L. Schwartz died on May 5, 2022. The Charlotte Adelman and Bernard L.
