Shortgrass Stampede (virtual) Walk-a-thon

Are you ready to escape your quarantine burrow and explore the prairie? Want to share your love for prairie wildlife and spread the news about how everyone can help provide permanent protection for animals from pronghorn to prairie dogs?

 You can walk, run, bicycle, skateboard, do the tarantula tango… it all counts! Just get outside and enjoy nature. Find a prairie near you to explore and challenge friends to compete with you for miles or pledges.

 Most importantly, share your walk-a-thon with friends and family. Invite them to sponsor you and be a part of gaining ground for prairie wildlife. We don’t want to be the best kept secret in Colorado! Help Southern Plains Land Trust grow by introducing fellow nature lovers to our community. Collect pledges for your Shortgrass Stampede and walk anytime between May 5 – June 5, 2021. 

Everyone that participates in the
Shortgrass Stampede Walk-a-thon
and raises at least $25 will receive a
Southern Plains Land Trust wildlife buff
with original artwork
by our own Soleil Gaylord! 

Record the miles you cover. Share photos of your adventures on social media and be entered to win prizes in weekly drawings. All money raised will be used to help buy, protect, and restore nature preserves for prairie wildlife. Bison, burrowing owls, prairie dogs, and swift foxes can’t ask for pledges to save their habitat, but you can! Join the stampede and become a prairie super hero!

Weekly challenges & prize drawings:
Post your photos on social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) and tag Southern Plains Land Trust. You will be entered in a weekly drawing to win a Southern Plains Land Trust t-shirt or hat.

• May 5 – May 15: Share a photo of your favorite prairie spot. It can be from anywhere in the world.
• May 16 – May 22: Share a photo of a prairie wildflower or grass to celebrate the beauty of the grasslands.
• May 23 – May 29: Share a photo of your favorite prairie animal or a wildlife sighting from one of your walks.
• May 30 – June 5: Share a photo of you and friends celebrating National Prairie Day!

Celebrate National Prairie Day – Saturday, June 5th 

Our Shortgrass Stampede will culminate on National Prairie Day. We challenge you to invite a friend to celebrate the prairie with you. Get outside and explore a nearby prairie! Share photos of your walk on social media and tag Southern Plains Land Trust. Inspire others to protect prairie and 
together we can gain ground for prairie wildlife!
