Superb Owl Idea
SPLT supporters, Jerome and Jacob, know how to throw a party! Last year, this Denver couple, came up with a clever way to raise funds to “buy an acre” of prairie grasslands — a Superb Owl! It started with a pot of veggie chili, snacks, and drinks. Next, they invited friends to join them for Superbowl Sunday. Along with a suggested donation of $20 per person, guests brought sides or drinks to share, and extra cash for games and the football pool. Over 30 guests celebrated this first annual Superb Owl together and raised over $1,200 protecting almost 3 acres of prairie grasslands. (Currently an acre of prairie grassland in our location cost approximately $500.)
We are sharing this idea to encourage all SPLT and prairie grassland supporters to consider hosting a Superb Owl Party this year as well! (Sunday, February 12th, 2023) Imagine parties all over Colorado and beyond — folks gathering to be together and to make a difference in preserving native habitats for plants and wildlife. A simple, fun idea that’s a “win-win.”
Whether you’re a football fan, an owl fan, or both — consider hosting a 2023 Superb Owl Party. Put your own spin on this party idea and make your own. – OWLS V. FOOTBALLS –
Burrowing owls are superb flyers, traveling at speeds of 20-40 miles per hour and covering distances of 1,500-2,000 miles during migration. Imagine how much work that must be!
NFL players throw footballs at speeds up to 60 mph. While there is no definitive record for the longest football throw in history, many believe that former NFL quarterback Vinny Testaverde’s 80-yard throw in the 1988 “Quarterback Challenge” competition earns the title.
