Celebration of the Prairie
Please join us in celebrating all of our progress for the prairie! Our premier annual fundraising gala is held in December in Denver, and is a classy way to support our organizing while enjoying food, drinks and a (silent) auction. All proceeds go towards buying more land and running general operations. Southern Plains Land Trust has now protected more than 60,000 acres of prairie grasslands for wildlife to call home, forever! SPLT’s preserves flourish with wild creatures — such as burrowing owls, golden eagles, pronghorn, prairie dogs, and bison. A good reason to celebrate!
This year’s event will take place on Saturday December 7th, 6 PM – 9 PM, at the Skylight venue in Denver! You are invited to join us for an evening full of festivities while we celebrate the prairie and all its wildlife.

Superb Owl
SPLT supporter Jerome knows how to throw a party! One year he came up with a clever way to raise funds to “buy an acre” of prairie grasslands — a Superb Owl party! It started with a pot of veggie chili, snacks, and drinks. Next, he invited friends to join him for Superbowl Sunday. Along with a suggested donation of $20 per person, guests brought sides or drinks to share, and extra cash for games and the football pool. Over 30 guests celebrated this first annual Superb Owl together and raised over $1,200 protecting almost 3 acres of prairie grasslands. (Currently, an acre of prairie grassland in our location costs approximately $500.)
We are sharing this idea to encourage all SPLT and prairie grassland supporters to consider hosting a Superb Owl Party this year! Imagine parties all over Colorado and beyond — folks gathering to be together and to make a difference in preserving native habitats for plants and wildlife. A simple, fun idea that’s a “win-win.”
Whether you’re a football fan, an owl fan, or both — consider hosting a Superb Owl Party. Put your own spin on this party idea! Colfax Marathon
Each year, we run for the runners! Your generous sponsorship of the Southern Plains Pronghorns relay team and individual runners at the Colfax Marathon will help fund our critical prairie conservation efforts. Join us in providing permanent protection to one of the most threatened ecosystems on Earth–the ancient shortgrass prairie and native wildlife in Southeastern Colorado.
Our members, new supporters and a superb group of long-distance runners, plan to carry the spirit of the American Pronghorn, North America’s fastest land mammal, as they make their way through the Mile High City.
