Southern Plains Land Trust (SPLT) has protected over 60,000 acres of prairie grasslands for wildlife to call home, forever! SPLT’s preserves flourish with wild creatures — such as burrowing owls, golden eagles, pronghorn, prairie dogs, and bison. After years of protecting Heartland’s prairie dog colonies, the populations have rebounded, enabling SPLT to participate in the black-footed ferret recovery program. October 19, 2022 was the historic day, on which 30 ferrets were first reintroduced to our preserve. We are glad to announce that a second reintroduction is happening soon! The charismatic black-footed ferret is among the most endangered mammals in North America.

Please join us in celebrating all of our progress for the prairie!
